State of SA users is bleak :(
It’s no secret but SA users are predominantly pretty switched off to technology.
While I am proud that I was at the healm when News24 achieved 1 000 000 domestic users (now 1.25 million by the way) - but I am not proud that 47% of News24 readers out of quite a decent sample do not know what Firefox is???
You really have to live under a cyber-rock to be that switched off? And this my friends is why web2.0 projects in SA are so unrewarded. The HARSH REALITY is that besides this community (the blogosphere) and a tiny % of the market that is switched on - the SA market is largely lagging in user-savyness (if that’s a word)
We saw that when the greater part of our audience did not know what to do with a product like laaik.it.
It reminds me of when I diligently tutored my mom to use windows. I love her - but it was hell!!

Nice post Elan.
I also saw those results of the poll and wondered why there were so many people who did not know what Firefox is and what the hype was about the launch of FF3.
The conclusion I arrive at is that the users of News 24 are not techies users, but I do not know your demographics so it is really a guess.
What you think?
